In the past, a bathroom was seen primarily as a place to get a wash and get clean. More recently, it has become more and more popular to create more luxurious bathrooms that are seen as a place to unwind and relax. Bathrooms are becoming more than just a convenience and the days of rushing through a morning shower and leaving quickly seem to be numbered. In fact, during many of our interior design projects, the bathroom is the first area that the client wants to discuss. So what is needed to turn a boring washroom into a place that you want to spend time in. What better place can you escape to when you need time to enjoy your own company? So what is the best way to enjoy your bathroom and make the most of the space around you?
Make the most of the light
The key to having a relaxing bathroom is to have a lot of light in the room. Instead of having one big light in the middle of the room, have small halogen lights that emphasise your favourite features in the room. A large window can really make the most of the natural light that is available, so use a light curtain if you cover it up to minimise the amount of light lost.

However, sometime you may want a more ambient feel to your bathroom. Therefore, it may be a good idea to have lights in the room that are activated by different switches. That way, you can have lampshades on the wall that create a warmer style of mood lighting. If you want to add an extra touch, dot some candles around when you are having a bath for a truly decadent atmosphere. (Just remember to not leave them unattended).
Make your bath the centre piece
The best way to make the most from your bathroom is to enjoy a nice long bath. Get the bubbles foaming really high, put on some relaxing music, have some chocolates at the ready and maybe even enjoy a nice glass of wine. So when you install your bathroom, make sure that you can show your bath off to all your friends. Don’t tuck it in the corner, make sure that it is the first thing that you see when you walk in. Standalone baths are the best type to use to achieve this effect, make sure that it is nice and deep to really submerse yourself.

Don’t forget the fittings
This is one area that can often get overlooked. Making the correct choice on taps and shower heads can make a real difference in making your bathroom truly unique. They may seem small, but using low quality fittings, or ones that do not fit with your personality, can make your bathroom stand out for all the wrong reasons. Use stylish taps and fittings to add a classy finish to your suite.
